Guangdong to launch campaign to identify and rectify major fire hazards
Guangdong province is set to launch an immediate campaign to identify and rectify major fire hazards after a fire in Shantou city resulted in 12 deaths.
On Wednesday morning, the Guangdong provincial government held a conference on safety production and fire prevention, according to a report from Southcn.com.
The meeting mobilized efforts to initiate the fire hazard rectification campaign and reinforced safety measures for the year-end period. Measures include addressing fire risks in self-built houses and conducting comprehensive safety inspections at high-rise construction sites, it said.
The death toll from the fire in a residential building in Shantou's Chaonan district on Tuesday night rose to 12 as of Wednesday afternoon, Xinhua News Agency reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
