China has unveiled a new five-year plan for accelerating agricultural and rural modernization, setting targets through 2030 and outlining major projects to strengthen food security, boost rural incomes and advance urban-rural integration.

The plan, issued by the State Council on Tuesday, outlines development goals, policy measures and key tasks for the agricultural sector and rural areas.

It emphasizes that agricultural and rural modernization will play a central role in advancing Chinese modernization and calls for prioritizing agricultural and rural development while promoting greater urban-rural integration.

According to the document, China aims to further consolidate the foundations of food security, improve the quality, efficiency and competitiveness of agriculture, and make remarkable progress in building a modern agricultural industry by 2030.

The plan also calls for advances in agricultural science and technology, continued consolidation of poverty alleviation achievements, faster growth in farmers' incomes and improvements in rural living conditions.

It outlines a series of major projects and initiatives, including expanded construction of high-standard farmland, the development of cold-chain logistics facilities and the integration of artificial intelligence into agriculture.

Other goals include establishing a long-term monitoring system to prevent people from falling back into poverty, conducting a nationwide survey of agricultural resources and land use, and fostering emerging agriculture-related industries.
