Shanghai to build world's largest spokeless ferris wheel
An array of benchmark projects, including the world's largest spokeless ferris wheel, have been announced for Shanghai. The stated aim behind the projects is to upgrade the city's skyline and boost its attraction as an ideal culture and tourism destination, according to a local news outlet.
Situated on the waterfront of Baoshan district, the 2-billion-yuan investment ferris wheel is on top of the list. Literally means the "Arch of Shanghai" , the 228-meter-high ferris wheel is expected to be the biggest of its kind globally when complete, Dragon TV reported.
In a shape of gigantic ring, the "Arch of Shanghai" with rotating space cabins is set to become a new landmark of the city, offering integrated experience of sightseeing, leisure and culture.
Five mega projects that span waterfront leisure, urban renewal, digital performance, immersive experience and city landmark were announced during the Shanghai Tourism Investment Promotion Conference on April 29.
The existing largest spokeless ferris wheel in the world is the "Eye of Bohai " at a height of 142.52 meters, which is located in Weifang, Shandong province, according to the Guinness World Records?.
