Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman will begin a three-day official visit to China starting on Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry announced.

The visit marks Rahman's first trip to China since Bangladesh's new government took office in February.

China attaches great importance to its relations with Bangladesh, a spokesperson with the ministry said on Monday.

Through the visit, the spokesperson said China hopes to work with the new government to enhance political mutual trust, deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields and promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, so as to strengthen their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Describing current bilateral ties, the spokesperson characterized China and Bangladesh as friends, close neighbors and comprehensive strategic cooperative partners.

Since establishing diplomatic ties over five decades ago, the two countries have developed friendly ties on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and with mutual respect and equality, the spokesperson said.

Bilateral ties have enjoyed sustained and steady progress, and delivered tangible benefits to both peoples, the spokesperson added.
