Wang Jianjun, former vice-chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, has been indicted on bribery charges, China's top procuratorate said on Tuesday.

According to the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the case was concluded by the National Commission of Supervision and transferred to procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution. The SPP said it had made an arrest decision against Wang on suspicion of taking bribes and designated the People's Procuratorate of Weifang in Shandong province to examine and prosecute the case.

The procuratorate has recently filed a public prosecution with the Weifang Intermediate People's Court.

Prosecutors alleged that Wang took advantage of his positions, including deputy director of the Yunnan office of the CSRC, deputy director of the general office of the CSRC, and director of the CSRC market supervision department, to seek benefits for relevant entities and individuals.

They also alleged that he used the convenience created by his authority and position, as well as the acts of other state functionaries connected to their official duties, to secure benefits for others and illegally accepted money and valuables in return. The amount involved was especially huge, and Wang should be held criminally liable for bribery, prosecutors said.

Wang, 58, a native of Sichuan province, began work in 1991 and joined the Communist Party of China in 1994. He had worked in securities regulation for many years. In March 2015, he was appointed director of the CSRC's general office. He later served as general manager of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, secretary of its Party committee, and chairman of its board. From October 2021 to May 2025, he served as a member of the Party committee and vice-chairman of the CSRC.

In April 2025, Wang was placed under investigation while in office. He was removed from his post in May and expelled from the Party in November 2025.
