Zhuang Jianqiu, mayor of Zhengzhou and National People's Congress deputy, emphasized the city's strategic importance for economic growth during the ongoing two sessions.

As the capital city of Henan province, Zhengzhou is a pivotal international transportation hub, Zhuang said.

With a population of over 13 million, the city benefits from a two-hour high-speed rail network reaching 400 million people and an aviation network covering over 90 percent of the national consumer market, giving it unique advantages, he said.

What's more, Zhengzhou is capitalizing on its geographic advantages by focusing on innovative business models and consumption patterns to become an internationally oriented and culturally rich city.

Zhuang noted that by creating an optimal business environment, Zhengzhou has successfully attracted major players like Sam's Club.

In the past year, the city saw over 400 new stores and flagship openings, filling a gap in high-end commercial outlets and generating approximately 30 billion yuan ($4.14 billion) in related consumption.

Additionally, Zhengzhou is promoting local brands on a global scale, such as Mixue Ice Cream & Tea.

The city is shifting focus from material consumption to emotional and experiential spending by integrating fashion into scenic spots and commercial hubs.

Zhengzhou is also capitalizing on its cultural assets to promote the integration of culture, commerce, and tourism, creating diverse consumption options, Zhuang said.

In addition, the Shangdu Historical and Cultural District integrates historical sites with modern commercial areas to create a tangible experience of the city's heritage.

"Zhengzhou aims to cultivate new consumption patterns, turning every corner of the city into a driver for consumer activity," Mayor Zhuang stated.

The city plans to optimize its environment, nurture enterprises across the value chain, and build comprehensive scenarios to enhance connections between domestic and international markets. By doing so, the city seeks to strengthen its position as a dynamic hub for both economic and cultural activities, Zhuang added.
