A spokesman for the China Coast Guard accused on Thursday Taiwan regional authorities of deliberately hyping up recent law enforcement patrols conducted by the mainland in waters near Jinmen, an island administered by Taiwan, in an attempt to mislead the public.

Zhu Anqing, spokesman for the CCG's East China Sea Bureau, said in a news release that the Fujian Coast Guard conducted routine law enforcement patrols recently.

During the operation, the coast guard strengthened control over key waters by employing measures such as formation sailing, identification and verification, and radio warnings.

The spokesman said the Taiwan authorities and some media outlets had distorted the facts and engaged in deliberate sensationalism.

The China Coast Guard will continue to carry out regular law enforcement patrols in waters near Jinmen to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests, as well as the lives and property, of fishermen on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, Zhu said.
