"Ningxia's wine industry originated along the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains. With the irrigation from the Yellow River, the soil offers ideal humidity and permeability. This results in well-balanced tannins and other qualities in the wine. Thanks to these resources and terroir advantages, many Ningxia wines have won international awards," Wang Linling, head of the Comprehensive Economic Research Institute at the Ningxia Academy of Social Sciences, said.
At Baijitan National Nature Reserve, journalists observed the iconic grid-like straw checkerboards, an innovative Chinese technique for stabilising sand and combating desertification.
