In July, youths from the Chinese Choir at the Burg in Germany celebrated the Torch Festival in Chuxiong, Yunnan province, a fire carnival of the Yi ethnic group.
After Bimo–the shaman of the Yi ethnic group–chanted ancient melodies to light the sacred flames, the members of the Chinese Choir at the Burg dressed in beautiful traditional Yi attire, danced an energetic "Yi-style Disco" with the locals around the blazing bonfire, and sang The Torch Festival in July.
In a captivating blend of modern drone performances and traditional "Yi-style Disco", the vibrant torches ignite a rhythm where two distinct traditions dance as one.
