China's only national-level international forum on ecology opened in Guiyang, Guizhou province, on Saturday.

The two-day Eco Forum Global Guiyang will bring together nearly 1,000 guests, including government officials, experts, scholars and industry leaders from around the world, to discuss the global green transformation.

At the opening ceremony, Ding Zhongli, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, called for deeper international cooperation and broader participation in environmental governance under the Belt and Road Initiative, and urged partners to join forces in protecting the environment.

Stewart Maginnis, deputy director-general for programmes at the International Union for Conservation of Nature, said in an interview that he hopes the event will spark in-depth exchanges. He praised China's clear insights and practical examples in its green transition, saying they offer the world a China's Solution for sustainable development.

This year's forum features 20 thematic sessions on topics such as AI-enabled green initiatives, biodiversity and marine protection. For the first time since 2018, international organizations are co-hosting many sessions. Eleven of the 20 sessions involve international bodies, and four are entirely organized by them.

Launched in 2009, the forum has brought together government, business, academia and technology sectors to share ideas and collaborate. This year marks the 13th edition of the event.
