Coast Guard: Plane collides with helicopter

Updated: 2009-10-30 14:18 SAN CLEMENTE ISLAND, California: The US Coast Guard says one of its planes has collided with a military helicopter off the Southern California coast. According to the Coast Guard, the Navy reported the crash at about 7 p.m. local time Thursday. The helicopter went down about 15 miles (24 kilometers) east of San Clemente Island, the farthest south of the Channel Islands. Coast Guard Petty Officer Allyson Conroy said several vessels were scouring the area. She didn't immediately say how many people were on the helicopter or release any other details on the crash. |
