UNITED NATIONS -- France will table a draft resolution at the UN Security Council seeking to end the escalating violence in Georgia.

Jean Pierre Lacroix, France's deputy permanent representative to the UN, said Monday after attending the fifth meeting of the 15-member council on the situation in Georgia.

"We will circulate a draft resolution shortly to the members of the council," Lacroix told reporters after the meeting.

"It is a simple and straightforward resolution," he said. "It basically contains the same elements that are in the plan outlined by (French) President (Nicolas) Sarkozy."

The resolution includes an immediate cessation of hostilities, a return of Russian and Georgian forces to positions occupied prior to the outbreak of conflict, respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Georgia and possible international help in finding a solution, he said.
