Can we do away with exchange rates?

These days, we get to read a lot of reports about trade protectionism, trade barriers and anti dumping duties, which impede growth and create animosity between countries, and could take years to rectify.

The ultimate goal of a nation is to lift the living standards of its people and provide them safety.

To reach that goal, a country has to maintain friendly relations with neighbors, and nations have to appreciate each other's qualities despite of their differences.

There was a time when merchants were engaged in barter trade, which brought countries and people together. Perhaps it is time to revisit that period, and neighboring countries could think of restarting barter trade to achieve their common goals.

It would boost innovation, reduce wastage, improve quality, increase employment and bring in competitive spirit in the right sense.

After all, the exchange rates are manmade that lead to unnecessary conflicts of interests.
