Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region will receive a Chinese medicine hospital after city authorities signed a cooperation agreement with the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine on Dec 5.

Wu Jianwei of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine explained during the signing ceremony that the university would help Urumqi develop Chinese medicine by sending medical staff to the city and by holding remote consultations.

Founded in 1956, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine is one of the earliest established higher education institutions specializing in Chinese medicine. It consists of 13 schools and offers degree programs at undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral levels in Chinese Medicine.
