On June 12, a Great Wall protection conference was held in Baotou, Inner Mongolia to inaugurate the region's first Great Wall work station. Participating experts and volunteers shared their experiences and discussed plan for further protection.

The region alone accounts for nine percent of the entire Great Wall in Inner Mongolia, housing seven parts with a cumulative length of 657.4 kilometers. Construction of these walls spanned five dynasties and they have a remarkable historical value, thus are handled with special care by the government and its volunteers.
