Nurses donate reward to blast victims
( Xinhua )
Updated: 2011-12-19

WUHAN - Two nurses who gave tips to police that led to the arrest of a suspect in a bank blast that occurred earlier this month have donated all of their 100,000-yuan reward ($15,754) to the victims of the blast and the local Fund for Justice and Courage.

The two nurses, 31-year-old Chen Libin and 26-year-old Zhang Liping, have offered 30,000 yuan each to the families of two people who were killed in the explosion. The remaining 40,000 yuan was donated Monday to the Fund for Justice and Courage in Hubei province, where the explosion occurred.

Police gave the reward to Chen and Zhang Friday night, just hours after apprehending the suspect. The pair said they believe helping the police is the responsibility of every citizen, leading them to donate the reward money.

The two called the police Friday morning after they realized that one of their patients resembled Wang Haijian, a man who was wanted by police in connection with the blast.

Wang, 24, is believed to be responsible for an explosion that occurred outside a branch of the China Construction Bank on December 1 in the Hongshan district of Wuhan, the capital of Hubei. The blast killed two people and left 15 others injured.
