Pingtan Island in Southeast China's Fujian province made it onto the list of Top 10 Island Resort in the World released recently by the Ifeng Travel, part of the news portal Ifeng.com, local media ptnet.cn reported on Feb 23.

The selection criteria covered natural landscape, entertainment facilities, accommodation, delicacies and parent-child activities on the island resort, according to a staff member of the website.

The island beat others and won the title, due to its unique coastal landscape with beaches and sea-erosion landforms, special?folk dwellings and blue sky. Those features attract a large number of visitors to the island every year and help it win a title as "Fujian's Maldives".

The island?is a place on the mainland that is closest to Taiwan. It is also known as Haitan Island and the fifth largest one in China.

The list for island resort is one of the five lists released by the website, with the other four being "Top 10 Villages in the World", "Top 10 Friendly Cities in the World", "Top 10 Boutique Hotels in the World" and "Top 10 Airlines in the World".
