The first heroine she emulated, Bessie Coleman, was the first African American female pilot. Mr. Bushelle posted side-by-side pictures of Bessie and Lily on his Facebook page, including the hashtags #teachtheyoung and #promoteheroines.

Howard, who was the first female four star admiral in the US Navy and the highest ranking black woman in the military, and Shirley Chisholm, who was the first black woman to be elected to Congress.
