On the obverse, the traditional goddess of victory, holding a palm in her left hand and a winner's crown in her right. A design used since the 1928 Games in Amsterdam, created by Florentine artist Giuseppe Cassioli (ITA -1865-1942) and chosen after a competition organised by the International Olympic Committee.
For these Games, the picture of victory is accompanied by the specific inscription: "IXe OLYMPIADE AMSTERDAM 1928".
On the reverse, an Olympic champion carried in triumph by the crowd, with the Olympic stadium in the background.
N.B: From 1928 to 1968, the medals for the Summer Games were identical.
The Organising Committee for the Games in Munich in 1972 broke new ground by having a different reverse which was designed by a Bauhaus representative, Gerhard Marcks.
獎牌正面為傳統(tǒng)的勝利女神。她左手持棕櫚葉，右手拿著勝利者佩戴的花冠。本屆奧運(yùn)會的勝利女神圖像由佛羅倫薩藝術(shù)家卡西奧里設(shè)計(jì)，并在國際奧委會組織的設(shè)計(jì)比賽中被選作奧運(yùn)會獎牌正面圖樣沿用至今。
獎牌正面右方刻有“阿姆斯特丹1928--第九屆奧運(yùn)會”字樣，背景為古羅馬競技場圖案。
獎牌背面為一名奧運(yùn)冠軍被群眾簇?fù)恚瑘雒鏆g欣鼓舞。背景是奧林匹克體育場。
從1928年到1968年，奧運(yùn)會獎牌樣式一直沿用了1928年的設(shè)計(jì)。直到1972年奧運(yùn)會，當(dāng)時的慕尼黑組委會突破原有設(shè)計(jì)，采用了包豪斯建筑學(xué)派代表人物格哈德?瑪克思（Gerhard Marcks）的設(shè)計(jì)，更改了獎牌背面圖案。
