阿聯(lián)酋總統(tǒng)扎耶德因病逝世后，其長子哈里發(fā)順理成章的繼任父親之位，成為阿聯(lián)酋新總統(tǒng)。外電報道如下：Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan
al-Nahyan's eldest son has succeeded him as president of the United Arab
Emirates. Sheikh Khalifa was chosen by leading officials from the seven
emirates shortly after his father's funeral.
Arab leaders and dignitaries from around the world assembled in Abu
Dhabi for a procession and private prayers.
Emirate表示“酋長國；阿拉伯酋長（貴族、王公）之職位或階級”。阿拉伯聯(lián)合酋長國是由7個酋長國（阿布扎比、迪拜、沙迦、阿治曼、哈伊馬角、烏姆蓋萬和富查伊拉）組成的松散的聯(lián)邦國家，各酋長國經(jīng)濟(jì)基本獨(dú)立，各自執(zhí)行自己的經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展計劃，有自己的海關(guān)系統(tǒng)，工商會和民航管理當(dāng)局等。
