New anti-dumping rule takes effect

The amendment to China's anti-dumping regulation takes effect Tuesday two years after the regulation was first amended in line with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.

The country amended the regulation in accord with its Foreign Trade Law, said sources with the Ministry of Commerce Monday.

The amendment has a new item that anti-dumping tariff imposed upon certain imports should be in the interest of the public.

In the past two years since China became a WTO member, the Ministry of Commerce has started investigation on 18 anti-dumping appeals mainly about chemical fiber, steel, paper making and opticfiber industries against countries such as the Republic of Korea, Japan, the United States, European Union and Russia.

China first issued the regulation on anti-dumping and anti-subsidy in 1997 and amended it for the first time in 2001.
