China hopes POWs receive humanitarian treatment

China hopes the prisoners of war from both sides in the Iraq conflict will be treated in a humanitarian way according to the Geneva Convention, Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said in Beijing Tuesday.
Kong said China urged the parties engaged in the war to abide by the Geneva Red Cross Convention of 1949 and other related international conventions.
China also renewed its calls for an end to the war, Kong said.
