Beijing plans more nursing homes for senior citizens

By Liao Wei (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2013-01-23 17:18

The government will add 10,000 nursing home beds per year through policies providing land and tax breaks, according to the Beijing Civil Affairs Department.

The beds in nursing homes will reach 120,000 by 2015, with 3.8 beds per 100 senior citizens.

The government will encourage private capital to invest in the pension service sector and foster a batch of pension service organizations and leading enterprises.

The Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission plans to invest 1 billion yuan ($160 million) to care for the old. The efforts include expanding the First Social Welfare Institution of Beijing and constructing a new nursing home in Daxing district.

The fund will also finance a 400-bed nursing facility project in each county of Beijing.
