The HuangGuoshu Waterfall Festival will officially launch in the city of Anshun, Southwest China's Guizhou province, starting from the end of May, it was announced at a news conference Friday.

The festival will last for four months, including a range of celebration shows, sports events, forums and trade fairs. Amid the 22 total major events during the festival, more than half will be held as nationwide or international activities rather than province-level.

The waterfall festival has become one of the highest profile and most influential tourism-gala, with the largest in Guizhou province since its initial launch in 2005.

"The festival will make greater contribution in boosting the development of Guizhou's tourism industry," said Wang Tingkai, Anshun's vice-mayor.

The waterfall of Huang Guoshu, literally Yellow Fruit Tree, is the most well-known scenic spot and tourism-image of Guizhou.

The tourism industry is playing a significant role in Anshun's economy. In 2010, the city attracted more than 13 million tourists with industrial revenue over 11 billion yuan ($1.2 million), a 13 percent year-on-year increase.
