Girl fakes own kidnap to test parents' love

Police did not know whether to laugh or cry when they cracked a "kidnapping" case in Xinyang, Henan province, last Tuesday.

The culprit, a 22-year-old woman named Xu Juan, was found to have "kidnapped herself" to test how much her parents cared about her.

Xu's parents immediately sought police help after receiving a mobile phone message saying that Xu had been kidnapped.

Xu was brought up by her aunt and said she only fabricated the kidnapping to see if her parents really loved her.

She was detained by police but later released.
