Investing in gold, woman buys rocks

Updated: 2006-10-24 08:48 A rich woman from Fuqing of Fujian Province recently spent 100,000 yuan (US$12,330) to purchase golden products that turned out to be a pile of stones. Last month, a friend told Huang that some businessmen from Yunnan Province had some golden items and were looking for buyers. Huang was keen to invest in golden products, and last Tuesday she met the Yunnan businessmen in a hotel and got a sample of the gold, which proved to be of high quality. The same day, Huang gave the businessmen 100,000 yuan for a sealed box said to hold 2 kilograms of gold. When Huang opened the box at home, she was dumbfounded to see a pile of stone within.
