Diplomats highlight growing importance of people-to-people exchanges in China-Africa ties
In a recent diplomatic reception at the China World Hotel in Beijing to commemorate Africa Day 2026, Miao Deyu, vice-minister of foreign affairs of China, congratulated African countries on the successful commemoration of Africa Day in Beijing. He noted the special significance of 2026 as the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and African nations.
Miao highlighted the long-standing friendship and solidarity between China and Africa and reaffirmed China's commitment to strengthening practical cooperation under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
He underlined cooperation in areas including development, education, healthcare, poverty reduction, connectivity, and cultural exchanges, noting that China and Africa have consistently supported one another throughout their respective development journeys.
Telesphore Irambona, Burundian ambassador to China, representing the Chair of the African Union, highlighted the importance of cultural exchanges in strengthening understanding and friendship between Africa and China.
