Zhangjiagang, where half charm lies in its waters

Zhangjiagang, a county-level city of Suzhou, thrives with its abundant waterways, where the grace of southern water towns blends with the grandeur of the Yangtze River.

Waterways crisscross the city, with Gudu Canal, Xipu Pond, and Yigan River winding through streets and alleys. Houses by the river are mirrored in the clear water, painting a tranquil picture of a water town.

Ancient bridges, such as Qinglong Bridge and Caigang Bridge built during the Song Dynasty (960-1279), and Hongji Bridge that has weathered the elements since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), sit quietly on the river surface, their reflections creating a poetic ink-wash style that carries stories of the past.

Besides the gentle charm of small bridges and flowing water, Zhangjiagang boasts over 40 kilometers of Yangtze River shoreline, including the magnificent Zhangjiagang Bay.

Furthermore, Shazhou Lake, Jiyang Lake, and Fenghuang Lake offer different scenery throughout the seasons.
