China slams US attempt to curtail scientific, technological exchanges

Beijing blasted on Friday Washington's attempt to suppress and contain China without scruple, saying such a move will only dampen the innovation dynamism of the United States itself.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning made the remarks after a US House select committee published the so-called whistleblower email account on its website, asking US academics, researchers and university faculty to report research partnerships involving China's defense or industrial base entities.

In recent years, by over-stretching the concept of national security, the US has deliberately disrupted normal scientific and technological exchanges and wantonly persecuted Chinese students and scholars, she noted.

Such practices will only backfire, Mao said.
