China says root cause of energy security risks lies in Iran conflict
China said on Wednesday that the root cause of the impact on the world economy and energy security lies in the conflict involving Iran, while reiterating its firm opposition to illegal unilateral sanctions that lack a basis in international law and are not authorized by the United Nations Security Council.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular news briefing when asked to comment on reports that China had been relatively less affected by the energy crisis triggered by the conflict.
Iran and the United States have agreed to a temporary ceasefire and to temporarily reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
When asked to comment on a report that the Iranian ambassador to China had sought security guarantees from Beijing, Mao said China hopes parties can properly resolve disputes through dialogue and negotiation.
China will remain in communication with relevant parties and continue working for de-escalation and a full end to the fighting, she added.
