The original symphonic music drama A Dream of Red Mansions — Resound had its premiere on Friday in Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, performed by the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra.
The performance, which infused the essence of the classic Chinese novel Dream of the Red Chamber with the symphonic style of the orchestra, transferred the timeless classic's story from the water town of Suzhou, Jiangsu province, to Xinjiang, offering the audience an immersive audio-visual feast that transcended geographical boundaries and integrated various art forms.
The 1987 TV version of Dream of the Red Chamber is a classic in Chinese film and television history, and the music composed by Wang Liping has become an iconic cultural symbol deeply etched in the memories of Chinese people.
