President Xi Jinping has always attached great importance to ecological conservation. Following in his footsteps across China, let's explore his vision of harmony between humanity and nature.

"If such a fine ecosystem were destroyed, it would be like squandering a valuable inheritance and letting down future generations," Xi said during an inspection tour in Guizhou province in 2021, stressing that the excellent ecological environment is Guizhou's biggest developmental strength and competitive edge.

On February 3, 2021, Xi visited a section of the Wujiang River in Guizhou. While checking the river's ecological environment and water quality, he affirmed the approach of strengthening the management of sewage outfalls and building water quality monitoring systems.

"How have you been managing the river? Are you still raising fish in floating net cages?" Xi asked pointedly.

At a nearby pier, staff informed him, "Tests show the water quality is the 'excellent' level of Class I rating (the highest level of the five-tier system)."

"This shows the management of the upstream river has been effective," Xi said with delight.

Great local efforts were made to tackle chemical pollution and ban cage fish farming across the river basin. As a result, the main stream of the Wujiang River recovered from inferior Class V to Class II.
