A spokeswoman for China's Foreign Ministry has said that both Afghanistan and Pakistan value and welcome China's mediation efforts, stressing that it is a positive development that the two sides are willing to talk.

During Friday's news briefing, Mao Ning said China has been mediating and promoting talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan following the recent escalation of tensions in the region. "Beijing maintains close communication with both sides through multiple channels and at various levels to provide a platform for dialogue," she added.

Mao said that the consultation process is progressing steadily and that the three parties have reached consensus and agreements on specific operational arrangements, including media coverage.

Further developments will be announced in a timely manner, she added.
