Shanghai airports see record daily passenger traffic during holiday
Shanghai's two airports set new records during the eight-day National Day holiday that ended on Wednesday, handling more than 400,000 passenger trips per day, according to Shanghai Airport (Group) Co Ltd.
Between Oct 1 and 8, about 19,000 aircraft landed or took off at Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, averaging 2,448 flights per day and representing a year-on-year increase of 6 percent.
During the holiday period, the two airports handled 3.25 million passenger trips in total, with the daily average rising 9.3 percent year-on-year to 406,000 trips, a new record for the National Day holiday.
To create a more convenient travel experience for foreign visitors and support Shanghai's goal of becoming China's top destination for inbound tourists, a 156-member volunteer team began offering translation, inquiry and guidance services starting Oct 1 at both airports. So far, the team has served more than 2,000 passengers, receiving positive feedback from international travelers.
