BEIJING -- Multiple economic indicators in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region ranked among the fastest-growing in China in 2024, said a senior Xinjiang official on Friday.

In 2024, Xinjiang's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 6.1 percent year-on-year, surpassing the 2 trillion yuan (about $281.4 billion) mark, said Chen Weijun, executive vice-chairman of the regional government of Xinjiang, at a news conference held by the State Council Information Office.

According to Chen, last year, Xinjiang's fixed-asset investment rose by 6.9 percent year-on-year, value-added industrial output of enterprises above the designated size grew by 8 percent, and general public budget revenue rose by 10.5 percent.

Erkin Tuniyaz, chairman of the regional government, said at the news conference that people's income has risen over the years.

"In 2024, the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents reached 42,820 yuan and 19,427 yuan, up by 23,801 yuan and 12,551 yuan, respectively, compared with 2012 figures," he said.

A white paper titled "CPC Guidelines for Governing Xinjiang in the New Era: Practice and Achievements" was released at the press conference.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
