Protected bird Chinese pond-heron spotted in Chongqing

On Monday, a Chinese pond-heron, which is under first-class State protection, was spotted at Shuanggui Lake National Wetland Park in Chongqing's Liangping district, underscoring the success of local ecological restoration efforts.
According to local AI monitoring data, the number of migratory birds wintering at the lake increased significantly from around 2,000 in 2019 to over 10,000 last year. The park's bird diversity also saw notable growth, with species' count rising from 137 in 2018 to now exceeding 200.
