An international workshop on artificial intelligence and chemical safety and security management opened on June 17 in Shanghai. It aims to enhance global cooperation, especially for Global South countries, in implementing the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and advancing the peaceful use of chemical technology. Director-General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Fernando Arias Gonzalez noted the workshop is a timely meeting, highlighting China's contributions to AI capacity-building in CWC implementation. Also, Chinese ambassador to the Netherlands and permanent representative to the OPCW Tan Jian noted there are high expectations for China's role.
