The Fujian Earthquake Agency, located in Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian province, recently completed a landmark project.

It successfully deployed a cabled ocean-bottom seismometer on the Fuqing Huadian offshore wind power platform on April 27, marking the completion of China's first real-time transmission ocean-bottom seismic observation station utilizing a wind power platform.

Offshore wind power, harnessing renewable energy to produce electricity, is one of the fastest-growing areas of offshore engineering, and using wind power platforms that support the giant wind turbines provides broader coverage, with lower costs and higher reliability for marine seismic monitoring.

The establishment of the station is widely seen as being a significant step forwards in implementing the China Marine Seismic Observation Plan (2023-2035).

It's expected to efficiently and more quickly meet the seismic monitoring and early warning needs of the increasingly expanding coastal urban areas and major marine engineering projects.
