The Eastern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army organized its resources to track and monitor a United States warship that passed through the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday, according to a command spokesman.
Senior Colonel Shi Yi said in a statement on Wednesday night that the destroyer USS Finn sailed through the Taiwan Strait and publicly hyped doing so.
Shi's command monitored the vessel throughout its passage and took lawful countermeasures, he said.
"Recently, the US military has frequently carried out provocative actions, maliciously undermining regional peace and stability," he said.
Troops from the theater command always remain on high alert and resolutely defend national sovereignty and regional peace and stability, Shi added.
