China State Shipbuilding Corporation announces to build six super large vehicle carriers

Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co Ltd, which is under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), announced on Tuesday at the Marintec China 2023 to have acquired new orders to build six PCTCs (pure car and truck carriers), each with 10,800 parking spaces, which is the world's first very large PCTC order with a capacity of over 10,000 parking spaces, according to the Shanghai-based shipbuilder.
Counting into the above-mentioned order placed by Canada-based Seaspan Corp, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding's total holding orders of PCTC amounted to 16 vessels.
Designed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI), the super large PCTCs will each have 14 car decks and the multi-layer car decks can load various new energy vehicles powered by energies including hydrogen, compressed liquefied natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas among others. The vessels will be operated by Hyundai Glovis of South Korea after delivery.
The construction of six dual-fuel-powered PCTCs will help to further enhance Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding's market share and international influence, experts said.
Marintec China 2023, the world's largest and most influential event of the year, started on Tuesday (Dec 5) and lasted until Friday (Dec 8) this year in Shanghai, according to the event organizers.
