CE: Understanding essence of CPC congress will help HK

An accurate understanding of the essence of the Communist Party of China's 20th National Congress will be beneficial to the steady and sustained implementation of "one country, two systems", Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John Lee Ka-chiu said on Sunday.
"It'll also help us better integrate into the nation's development, concentrate on developing the economy, improve livelihood and build a brighter Hong Kong," Lee said in a social media post.
His remarks came after the newly-elected members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, led by Xi Jinping, general-secretary of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC, met with the press on Sunday.
The seven members of the Standing Committee, elected at the committee's first plenary session on Sunday, are Xi, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang and Li Xi.
Xi told the media that the Party should always act for the people and rely on the people on the journey ahead. And the country will be steadfast in deepening reform and opening-up across the board, and in pursuing high-quality development.
Lee said Xi's remarks and his report to the congress, which expounded on "one country, two systems", serve as an action guide for Hong Kong to march from chaos to order and prosperity. The new ideas, concepts and strategies laid down in the reports point to the way forward for the city, he added.
Congratulating the CPC on the successful convening of the weeklong congress, which concluded on Saturday, Lee said he's deeply touched by Xi's call for the nation to forge ahead, bearing in mind the desire of its people.
With the central government's full support and the unique strength of "one country, two systems", Lee pledged to unite Hong Kong society to build a caring, vigorous and united city for the people's well-being.
