Local government in Yangpu district in Shanghai is stepping up efforts to transform the waterfront area along the Huangpu River into a demonstration zone by 2022, Deng Xiaodong, deputy Party secretary of the district, said at a meeting on Sunday.
Deng said the government expects to introduce a batch of distinctive industries into the area to attract innovative talents, and have one or two leading domestic and foreign companies open branches there every year.
The local authority will also improve the quality of the public space, including its ecological environment, infrastructure and public service facilities by 2020, he added.
