China to mark 70 years of navy in Qingdao

China will hold multinational naval activities in Qingdao to mark its navy's 70th anniversary on April 23, said Ren Guoqiang, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense.
The People's Liberation Army Navy was founded on April 23, 1949, with nine warships and 17 boats obtained after a unit of the Kuomintang's second coastal defense fleet defected to the PLA.
